On April 7, 1980, it was reported that a one-cent stamp, issued in 1856 in Georgetown, Guyana fetched $850,000 within 50 seconds during an auction. Interestingly, the same stamp was sold ten years prior to that for a mere $280.000. In 1873, the same stamp was sold by a British Guyana teen for only $1.50.
