FIFTH LETTER

The other day, I got a letter and two books from Sister ——, who is preparing to make her profession, so she wants your prayers in particular. I sense she reckons a lot on them; don’t let her down. She should sacrifice in the light of God’s love, and with a commitment to be devoted to Him. I’ll send you one of the books that deal with the presence of God, a subject that, in my opinion, covers the whole spiritual life; and it seems to me that whoever practices it will soon become spiritual.

In order to practice it rightly, the heart must be emptied of all other things; since GOD alone will possess the heart, and since He cannot possess it alone without emptying it, neither can He act in it and do what He pleases without it being emptied.

It’s hard to think of a more sweet and delightful life than having a constant dialogue with GOD. It’s only understood by those who learn to do it and experience it; however, I don’t advise you to do it with the wrong motive. It’s not about pleasure in this exercise, but about loving God and doing it for his glory.

If I were a preacher, I’d preach the presence of GOD above all. If I were a director, all the world should do it. It’s so easy and so necessary.

But knowing the need for grace and assistance from GOD, we should never lose sight of Him, no, not for a moment. Just immediately make a holy and firm vow never again to forget Him. You will spend the rest of your days in His sacred presence, deprived of what He deems best for the love of Him.
