FOURTEENTH LETTER
To the Same.
Thanks to our LORD for relieving, you a little, as you asked. While I have often been close to death, I have never been so satisfied as then. Thus, I did not pray for relief, but for the strength to suffer with courage, humility, and love. What a blessing it is to suffer with God! No matter how terrible the suffering, accept it with love. If we want to enjoy the peace of paradise, we need to get used to a familiar, humble, affectionate conversation with Him. Our spirits should not wander from Him at any time. Our hearts must become spiritual temples, where we adore Him continuously. We must watch continually over ourselves, that we may not do, nor say, nor think anything that may displease Him. When our minds are thus employed about GOD, suffering will become full of unction and consolation. For us to arrive at this state, we must act solely in faith, which is very difficult to do at the beginning. However, we also know that we can do all things with the grace of GOD, which He never refuses to those who earnestly seek it. Continue knocking, and He will open to you at the appropriate time and grant you what He has delayed for so many years. Godspeed! Please pray for me as I pray for you. Hopefully I will see Him soon.
I am, Yours, etc.
